Honoring Idaho Veterans

and supporting our communities

Who are we?

Idaho Veterans Wreaths is a community-based initiative organized by Idaho Veterans Network (IVN), a non-profit veteran support organization. This new initiative replaces the former Wreaths Across America program. It is comprised of representatives from various Veteran Service Organizations and community partners.

Our mission is to honor the memory of our deceased Veterans and provide support to our surviving Idaho Veterans. We strive to honor the service and sacrifice of our Nation's soldiers by placing wreaths on their graves, fostering a sense of remembrance, and creating gratitude within our community for military service.

Strengthening Community

Our Idaho community is always quick to honor veterans and teach future generations to respect and revere our Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.  As in years past, a ceremony will take place the second Saturday of every December where families can honor their loved one and the community can gather to show their support and respect for military traditions.

Why Reusable Wreaths?

The Idaho Veterans Wreaths program will utilize reusable wreaths to address such things as:

  • Eliminating waste by replacing thousands of fresh wreaths which are ultimately discarded,

  • Reduce cost by only purchasing additional wreaths for new internments so that more funds will be available to assist Idaho veterans,

  • Provide service opportunities for community/youth programs to prep, clean, and store wreaths each year,

  • Early procurement, to ensure all wreaths are onsite and ready for the ceremony.

Can I lay my own live wreath?

Of course! Loved ones are welcome to purchase their own live wreath and place it at the cemetery. The wreath will not be removed until all wreaths are cleared in January.

There will also be a separate opportunity the day before the ceremony, for family members to lay a wreath for their loved one.  This will provide for a private and intimate setting.

The IDVS outreach team, after verifying the veteran’s status and ensuring benefits are being used, often rely on the hard work and giving nature of community partners with programs such as this to help these veterans when the need fall outside of traditional benefits.

The Idaho Veterans Wreaths program aims to provide tangible support to our living Idaho Veterans and their families facing hardships, ensuring they receive the assistance and recognition they deserve for their service to our country.

The Need in Idaho

In 2023, the Idaho Division of Veterans Services identified $229,000 spent in direct support for veterans in crisis from community partners such as the Idaho Veterans Network.

Requests are received daily from veterans needing help with:

  • Car repairs and gas cards to ensure transportation to medical appointments and/or work

  • Funeral costs for reservists and guard members who couldn’t qualify

  • Rehabilitation for substance abuse and addiction to get our veterans back on track

  • Christmas for struggling families

       ...and much more
